Woodstock Golf and Country Club sits on the outskirts of Ennis in rolling countryside about 20 km north of Shannon Airport. Opened in 1988, the course is a Par 72 measuring 5,912 metres and was laid out to make use of existing contours, a river, natural lakes and mature wooded areas. The routing begins with a demanding opening hole and features a notable loop of holes around a lake, with the sixth, seventh and eighth holes frequently singled out for their water hazards. The par-4 seventh plays from an elevated tee across a lake to an island fairway; the second shot typically requires a fairway wood or long iron to a large two-tiered green defended by bunkers and a sensible lay-up area to the right. The following par-3 requires a full carry over water. Locally these holes are referred to as Woodstock’s “Amen Corner,” and there is a steep climb after the eighth commonly called “Heart Attack Hill.” The site drains readily, a characteristic the original designer remarked on, and many pin positions are set on slopes, which adds complexity to putting. A pro shop is available on site, where gift vouchers can be purchased.

Newcastle West Golf Club was founded in 1938 after eight local businessmen met in April of that year to form a club. The official opening took place on 14 September 1938 when the V. Rev. Canon Hannon drove off the first tee; the club’s first competition was held a week later on 21 September 1938 and was won by D. O’Dwyer. In its early years the club engaged a professional, D. Murray, to give lessons and to supervise course development.
In 1992 the membership voted to relocate from a nine‑hole site and develop an 18‑hole course at Rathgonan, just outside the village of Ardagh. Play commenced on the new 18‑hole course in May 1994. The course site is in the parish of Coolcappa and was formerly part of the Cahermoyle Estate.
Facilities on the club’s site include a clubhouse with bar and catering, a 10‑bay fully covered and floodlit driving range, an 18‑hole putting green, a chipping green and a pro shop. The pro shop is managed by club professional Ian Colleran, who provides coaching through the Ian Colleran Golf Academy. The club publishes visitor green fee information and runs society days, with society rates noted for Irish‑based groups.

Up until 1971 all nine holes in Sutton were located on the clubhouse side of the railway line. New members and visitors shake their heads when they hear this. They are usually told a story that has become embedded in Sutton history. Legend has it that when someone shouted “fore” everyone on the course ducked!
The club had spent some time negotiating with Dublin City Council for a large plot of reclaimed land, that had been a dump previously. Eventually the club received a lease and the three new holes that were developed opened in 1971. They have been developed over subsequent years to become three excellent and challenging holes.
As might be expected this allowed development of 6 basically new holes on the original footprint of the club. The challenge has remained the same for golfers down through the years. Accuracy is all important - which is why Sutton continues to develop many fine golfers.

Our 18 hole, Par 72 golf course covers an area of approximately 143 acres and stretches over 6,604 yards off the White tees, 6,317 yards off the Yellow Tees, and 5,494 yards off the Red tees. Three man-made lakes add to the beauty of the gently undulating course with many of the holes proving a test for even the more experienced golfer.
The course has a Golf Ireland Rating of 71.2 and Slope of 124 off the White Tees, 69.8 and 123 off the Yellow Tees, and 60.8 and 96 off the Red Tees.
Allen Park features a 13-bay fully floodlit golf driving range with targets every 50 yards. Large and small baskets of balls can be purchased from a dispensing machine within the driving range area. Clubs are available to hire from Reception.
