Bearna Golf Club
Located in the West of Ireland, Bearna Golf Club is in a highly scenic area, with commanding views of Galway Bay, the Burren and the Aran Islands. It was carved out of a typical Connemara landscape of granite rock, bog, gorse and heather. The result is a challenging course of outstanding quality and unique character that has been rated by Kevin Markham in his book ‘Hooked’ as the best in the area. This west of Ireland golf course is situated in Corboley, half way between Bearna and Moycullen, and until recent times was a solely Irish speaking area. The name means the round hill of the milking place. Corboley is one of three proximate town lands whose names, dating from medieval times, derived from providing very rough pasturage for the hardy breed of small dark cattle, which traditionally survives in this impoverished but beautiful countryside. In past centuries the set cattle contributed to the principal commerce between Spain and the West of Ireland whereby Spanish wines and salts were traded through the port of Galway for cowhides and wool.

Mountbellew Golf Club
Mountbellew Golf Club is a mature 18-hole parkland course that’s open to visitors seven days a week. Off the white tees it measures just 5,644 yards, but don’t be fooled – you’ll need to think your way around it. Position is everything here. Keep it in play and you’ll be rewarded with short irons into greens, but take on too much and the course will bite back. The layout keeps things interesting from start to finish. The front nine features a tough mix of par 3s and tight par 4s that can test even low handicappers, while the back nine opens up a little with scoring chances on the par 5s. It’s the perfect balance of challenge and fun, the kind of course you walk off smiling, already planning your next round.
