Opened in 1988, the course is a Par 72 measuring 5,912 metres and was laid out to make use of existing contours, a river, natural lakes and mature wooded areas. The routing begins with a demanding opening hole and features a notable loop of holes around a lake, with the sixth, seventh and eighth holes frequently singled out for their water hazards. East Cork Golf Club began in 1968 when Eamon and Peg Moloney converted their dairy farm into a nine‑hole layout.
